Providing Grants to Special Education Teachers in Round Rock in Meena's Memory
Meena was born on January 9th, 1948 in a small religious hard working family. She completed her schooling in Mumbai and her post Graduate degree in Economics from M.S. University in Baroda, India.
After her marriage in 1972, she migrated to the USA in January 1973. She moved to Austin with her Husband Dinesh in August 1977. After settling in Austin, Meena worked for a couple of Automobile dealerships but was not happy with the type of work. She started working as a substitute teacher at Chisholm Trail Middle school in the early 1990s. After her daughter graduated from RR High School, Meena started a full-time job as a teacher’s aide in Chisholm Trail Middle school teaching Math and Science to 3rd and 4th-grade students. There she developed a love for caring for and teaching Special Educational children. Meena retired from Chisholm Trail Middle School; in 2012. She had a soft sport for Special Ed students and used to spend her own money to help the children.
Therefore, Meena’s family is starting a Meena Vakharia Memorial Trust to help Special Education teachers. The fund will provide grants to Special Education teachers to cover some of their class material expenses or for attending special education-related classes and/or seminars to enhance their education.
